Well . . . they're starting to notice the Minnesota basketball team around here these days. Last week the Gophers went to Madison and beat Wisconsin at home - something they haven't done in something like 16 years. That got the locals' attention. They were actually talking about Tubby and his basketball team this morning on sports talk radio. They were saying his laid back style of coaching has really resonated with the players. The opinion was that with the smothering defensive style of play he coaches coupled with a couple of hot shooters could make this team a Final Four contender if not this year, then maybe next. Sound familiar to Wildcat fans? With a 16-1 record, ESPN ranks the Gophers #17. AP ranks them #18. They're in second place in the Big Ten with a 4-1 record. Michigan State is in first with a 4-0 record. Minnesota's only loss this season was their first Big Ten game against Michigan State, currently ranked #7 by the AP.

He was pretty successful early in his career at Kentucky, as well. However, I'd say that Minnesota fans would take even what he did late at UK and classify it as success. It's just a different standard at Kentucky.
I wish him well at Minnesota. But I think we got the right guy at UK.
Yeah, I would say Tubby's job is secure in Minnesota. The only reason he would leave is another job in warmer weather or retirement. I doubt he would be fired - ever.
He has always done well with "other coach's" players. He might get the Gophers into the NCAA but they'll never make it to a final four with him at the helm. And Tubby's OK with that - at least he was at UK after his first year with Pitino's players. He succeeded at Georgia and Tulsa too with another coach's players. We're happy with Billy Clyde Giilispie thank you very much.
Update: MN falls to "Northwestern."
74-65. Maybe he won't get them into the NCAA. :)
Just so you know, I, personally, am not a Minnesota Gopher fan. Just thought you guys would be interested, No more Tubby updates.
