Well . . . they're starting to notice the Minnesota basketball team around here these days. Last week the Gophers went to Madison and beat Wisconsin at home - something they haven't done in something like 16 years. That got the locals' attention. They were actually talking about Tubby and his basketball team this morning on sports talk radio. They were saying his laid back style of coaching has really resonated with the players. The opinion was that with the smothering defensive style of play he coaches coupled with a couple of hot shooters could make this team a Final Four contender if not this year, then maybe next. Sound familiar to Wildcat fans?
With a 16-1 record, ESPN ranks the Gophers #17. AP ranks them #18. They're in second place in the Big Ten with a 4-1 record. Michigan State is in first with a 4-0 record. Minnesota's only loss this season was their first Big Ten game against Michigan State, currently ranked #7 by the AP.
