Recently, I was in a book store and saw this book, entitled "The Shack", and decided to purchase it. It's about a man named Mack whose beautiful little daughter is kidnapped and brutally murdered. After which, Mack enters a time in his life he calls The Great Sadness. Then he receives a note from "God" inviting him to meet Him at the shack where the murder occurred. Mack doesn't know if the author of the note is really from God. In fact, he suspects it may be from the murderer. Either way, he figures he gets to confront God and ask Him why He has allowed such a thing to happen to his little girl, or he gets to confront the person who did this terrible thing. So Mack makes the trip. I won't give away any more of the plot. However, I will say this is a beautifully written book and very thought provoking. I recommend every one read it - especially if you're like me - searching for the answers to the many questions I have about our existence here on Earth and what God has in mind for us. A fellow Christian, who had NOT read "The Shack", told me vehemently, "Do not read that book. It's heresy." Of course, that made me want to read the book even more. I'm not saying this book has the answers, but I will say it made me think. Also, I want to make the point it is a FICTIONAL novel and one shouldn't get too wrapped up in Christian doctrine and how it relates to this novel. Just read, enjoy, and THINK ABOUT IT.

I just finished reading it, and I absolutely LOVED it. I love that he didn't give simple, Christian answers to the tough questions about life. So many times Christians spout out these memorized answers and wrap them up in a nice little bow to give out to someone who's in pain without offering them any real sense of hope. This book really convicted me that I put God in a box so many times in my life. He is so much more than we could ever wrap our minds around. I definitely recommend this book!
i just picked it up today... by a friend's recommendation. justin saw it and remembered that you'd posted about it. so i came to hunt for your post. i found it :) glad to hear your opinion. and lyndsey's too. i am looking forward to reading it! i'll let you know what i think...
