Independence Day 2009

There's a part of me that wants to mourn this Independence Day because since the Presidential election I'm seeing the country becoming more DEPENDENT. As Rush says, "Maybe we should be celebrating Dependence Day, not Independence Day." I think there's a lot of truth in what he says. Obama and the Democratic Party are doing what they do best - buying votes and in so doing , gaining power. The government takeover of every major industry in this country is very conceivable in the next year. The economy is in the tank and getting worse. Some think that's exactly what the left wants in order to have even more people lean on the government and gain even more power.

But I think that's where they screwed up. Good, intelligent people all over the country are taking pay cuts, working more for less, paying higher taxes, and losing their jobs. These type of people are not the type of people to take this situation sitting down vegetating in front of the TV in the projects. These are the type of people that served their country, worked hard in school, became entrepreneurs and love their independence. I believe they will rise up and bring this country back to what made it great - less government interference in their everyday lives and the encouragement of innovation and the marketplace. Thus, the "Tea Parties".

So, I debated about flying the flag for Independence Day. The neighborhood I live in (I affectionately call it" New Mogadishu") has a very large group of immigrants. Some take their freedoms for granted, some are ambivalent , but others relish it. I decided to display our country's flag to remind myself and those who live near me of the greatness of this country and how we all are privileged to live here. Yes, it's broken now. But I do believe we can fix it. We just have to get off our butts and do it.

Happy Independence Day!

I can't listen to Obama even speak any more. He makes me so mad. He couldn't be more wrong, but to a lot of America, he can't sound more right.

I find myself watching and listening less and less to the news - kind of like the Clinton years. This too shall pass....

Tuning out is how Obama got elected.

"Tuning in" to mainstream is how he got elected because all the casual observers heard was how evil Bush and the republicans are and how BO would save us all.
I am tuning out for my own mental health. A friend of mine called me about a week ago and started on about a 15 minute angry rant about what's going on. I told him to tune out talk radio for a few days and see if that doesn't help your blood pressure. He did and it did.
I'm staying just tuned in enough to stay educated and that's all. I don't need all the rants right now, personally speaking.
