Advertising Based on Fear

Of all the ads on TV today, this one bugs me probably more than any. First of all, it's based on fear - fear of the government. That's significant in itself. The government is supposed to protect us, but you better watch out. Screw up on your taxes, and the government will destroy you. Take everything and throw you out on the street. I guess that's not so bad when you think about it. Then YOU can become a ward of the government and collect welfare. But I digress . . . If you're not afraid of the government, then you need to be afraid of terrorism, or your Identity being stolen, or your house broken into, or your investments tanking, or the Obama Administration, or Rush Limbaugh, or you name it. There's just too much fear out there. And the media and it's advertising are responsible. It would be nice to have those in power reassure us rather than try to frighten us. ("Things are going to get much worse" - Obama) I don't read the newspaper or watch the news anymore. Things will improve. They always do. And it will have nothing to do with the media or the media's advertisers. God does not want us to suffer. That much I know.

Yep - real encouraging speech from BO. Great for consumer confidence.
