There's a reason his middle name is "Hussein".

Obama's comments on the radical Islamic imam's plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero:

" . . . As a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country. And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America. And our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country and that they will not be treated differently by their government is essential to who we are. The writ of the Founders must endure. . ."

And we have a right to Common Sense . . .

As much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with him on this one. I may not have all the facts but I do believe there are two sects of Islam. The radical and the non-radical. It's a fact the non-radical sect has been in America for a long time and has exercised religious freedom. If we begin to take away religious freedoms from one group than all religious groups suffer the consequences. I have heard the tradition of Muslims building a mosque after they conquer a territory but I am not totally buying that argument on this one. I may be out in left field on this one but like I said "I may not have all the facts."

Yes, technically, the imam has the right to build whatever he wants (subject to zoning laws, etc.) on whatever private property he and his cohorts own. That's a fact. However, how would The Greatest Generation have handled it if the Japanese had built a Buddhist temple on Pearl Harbor? How about a memorial honoring the German National Socialist party in downtown London? Or how about a KKK meeting hall next to Martin Luther King's church in Atlanta? It's all about Common Sense - something BO has little of.

Thanks Justin. The articles you list raise serious doubts about the man leading the movement to build the mosque but I still agree with what BO says in Rick's post. I believe that if the government steps in and disallows this mosque to be built, that kind of action will even hurt Christians and their causes. I do think the Muslim community is stupid for building the mosque while facing so much opposition, but it is their right to be stupid.

When they stop forcing people to take down nativity scenes, I'll talk about religious freedom in this country.

This past week I voted in the Minnesota State Primary election - in a church! Why is it you can vote in a church, but can't pray in a school? I always ask that question of the poll workers. Of course nobody knows the answer. As far as the mosque issue is concerned, it's not about what you have a right to do, it's about what's right to do.

I agree but I still agree with what BO said in your original post.

It's what BO hasn't said that is the problem. He should have said what he said and then followed with "while I support the right, I must question the wisdom."
