Ahh yes, taxes and Texas...what a laughingstock their state and Governor
have become. One good thing if they do secede-I guess that would cut off all Federal payments for their social security checks, pensions(sorry W), and military retirement checks...thereby decreasing the deficit for "real Americans"!

Well, let's see, without an oppressive tax system on businesses and individuals coupled with offshore and onshore oil revenues that would rival that of the Middle East, I doubt there would be much need for checks from the federal government. However, I don't think the US government would have much of a case for denying funds that expats are entitled to for past services.

Yeah, that Texas oil has resulted in such a high quality of life for their residents: Houston is one of the most polluted cities in the U.S, their education system is atrocious(49th in verbal SAT scores, #36 in H.S. grad. rate), one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in America, etc, etc. I think we should give it back to Mexico but I read that 75% of Texans think being part of the union is still better than being a "Bush(league) Republic.

I can't help but wonder how Houston got into that situation. Could it be the "Great Society" and the "sit on the roof and save me" entitlement and welfare mindset of the Obama voters? I don't think anybody takes seriously the Texas threat of secession. But their point should be taken seriously.

I think Texas(no state income tax, home of Enron and Kennyboy Lay and unregulated refineries and pollution, a year round open season on labor and unions, a high income disparity between haves and have-nots, a higher divorce rate than liberal Taxachussetts, a high teen pregancy rate, and now soon teaching in public schools that dinosaurs may have became extinct just 10,000 years ago-so evolution is bunk) is a Poster Child State for proving that the right wing mantra of low taxes and more religion do not necessarily produce a "Great Society'. Minnesota comes about as close to balancing the scales in all the states I've lived in. It's just too bad that for about half the year you have to dress warm just to walk 50 ft. to the mailbox!

Yeah, and golly gee, we're going to have an XXX rated comedian (and a bad one at that) as our US Senator. Yep, the voters in Minnesota know what they're doing. You'd think they would have learned something after electing a professional wrestler Governor.
