What will these people do?

What would YOU do? We hear about these disasters all the time. I suppose it's human nature to think, "Whew! That's bad. Glad it didn't happen to me." And then forget about it. But what if it did? What would be the first thing you did? I think the first thing I would do is thank God I, and those I love, survived. The thing that amazes me is when this happens these people seem to always spring back and rebuild. I'm not talking about the people who have the big over insured homes. I'm talking about the people who were just getting by when this happened. They survive! When I think things are bad for me, these heroes are my inspiration. I pray for them.

It's tough to watch the footage on TV and see lives virtually turned upside down in a matter of minutes. I have seen numerous interviews this time where people mention God and how they will draw their strength from Him. I guess because the path of destruction was through the so-called bible belt. Through our experiences with 3 hurricanes, we have gotten a pretty close look at what it could be like to lose everything in a disaster. After losing shingles, a porch enclosure and some trees, it sure makes you feel thankful you didn't lose everything. I remember holding on to a vibrating front door in a category 2 and wondering "will the house hold together?" I think this is a case where the government needs to step in and set wind standards for all housing, especially modular homes. No modular home should leave a sales lot unless it can withstand 100 per hour winds. FOX News kept showing a 3 year old church with the roof ripped off. Can't they build a roof that can withstand 100 mph winds? At any rate, it's certainly a reminder that "life's not fair." I wonder why we think it should be?

I'm beginning to believe "fair" or "unfair" is not a fair description of life. Events in our life that we consider "unfair" at the time seem to often (if not always) lead us to a better place. It's happened to me every single time life has treated me "unfairly". I thank God for that.
